WARWICK — A 20-year-old Coventry man is facing child pornography charges.
Donald Bender of 14 Newell Court was arrested by the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, along with the Coventry and Providence Police Departments on Thursday for possession of child pornography. |

WEST WARWICK — Maisie Quinn Elementary School is officially closing in the spring and all those who will be fifth graders will attend the middle school.
It was with great regret that he recommended a motion to close the school, said Superintendent Kenneth Sheehan at the school committee meeting on Tuesday night.
Before taking a vote, the committee allowed parents to speak one last time. |

COVENTRY — An audit of Fiscal Year 2009 shows a cumulative deficit in Coventry Public Schools, a Parks and Recreation account that is not reported in the town’s ledger system and an unfunded pension liability.
The fiscal year audit performed by Parmelee Poirier and Associates, LLP, was mostly positive. But while the town has a fund balance of $7,422,397, which is about 8 percent of the annual revenue and will ensure a good bond rating, Bernard A. Poirier brought attention to these three areas in his presentation of the audit at the Monday council meeting. |

The Olympics consumed much of the media’s attention and intense devastation following the recent earthquakes in Chile and in Haiti have occupied people’s minds, but what is still occurring and is not getting much coverage is the continued effort to improve conditions in Afghanistan.
Young men and women from across the country are still risking their lives on a daily basis participating in various strategies to complete this mission.
